Cut-Paper: Images from Life

web_waiting

Margie Florini’s cut-paper designs are fun, have clear color, hard edges, and a contemporary look. Each collage is consciously executed to present the viewer with a personal story and mood inspired by the artist’s gardens, summers on Cape Cod, winters in Maine, memories of her years in Tucson and California, and her travels across the country. In short, these are whimsical snapshots of life.

Using beautiful Color-Aid matte-finish design papers, the original collages are made by piecing each paper side-by-side like a jigsaw puzzle, or by layering for a more 3-D effect. The papers are cut with exacto-blades and tiny embroidery scissors. Sometimes pastel shades or special tinted whites must be painted with gouache on Bristol board. These pieces work well when hung in multiples or alone.

Over the past 15 years, Florini’s cut-paper collages have enjoyed awards, solo exhibitions, they have graced the covers of magazines, greeting cards, and been selected for special projects in marketing by various companies and non-profits. The 01/02/09 issue of Artscope, New England’s Culture Magazine, features Florini’s work, “Gerbera” and a brief article about the artist.
